After DeLay, the biggest cancer in the US Congress is Richard Pombo, Republican from California's 11th District. The Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington recently named him "one of the 13 most corrupt members of congress". And that's not only because of his connection to Jack Abramoff and Charles Hurwitz (the Texas S&L baron who is using his Maxxam Corp. to liquidate the old growth Headwaters Forest). This guy has an almost psychotic zeal for attacking anything that might protect the environment. And he's known for pushing legislation that would directly enrich himself and his family.

Thanks to tremendous grassroots work, he lost! But he is using the lame duck session to attempt to rush through the worst environmental legislation, including "reforming" the Endangered Species Act. He must feel that this is his destiny somehow, like Martin Sheen in The Dead Zone. We can't allow him to do this.
